Well Arts Presents Voices of Our Elders at the Olympic Mills Commerce Center November 7 – 15, 2009

Lorraine Bahr, program coordinator for the Well Arts is working with elders in our community living in assisted memory care and senior living facilities during most of 2009.  Elders @ Summerplace 0512At Friendly House, Emerson House, Summerplace and Terwilliger Plaza, seniors  had an opportunity to write stories of their experiences working through the creative process with actors/scribes from the Portland Theater community.

After readings at individual facilities, stories were chosen from all of them, for a full staged reading production over the course of two weekends and six shows.  Healthcare professionals serving this population, families, writers themselves, the  general community and elder care facilities learned power of creative writing and one-on-one interaction to connect the memories of the past to the communication with the present and  enhance and honor our elder’s lives.
